An artist in India's Coimbatore, a city in Tamil Nadu, ties string around thousands of nails to form an impressive portrait of an actor.

Seevaga Vazhuthi is seen wrapping the string around the nails to create a unique portrait of actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan.

Vazhuthi said: "This is a tribute that I made for Mr Kamal Haasan for his birthday today. This form of art is known as string art is an unusual form of art rarely done by artist around the globe."

"It demanded a lot of endurance both physically and mentally. It took 28 days, 250 hours, 13,000 nails, 8 kilometres of string, and an 8-foot-long wooden board to complete this artwork.

"This is a step towards taking art to the next level."

This footage was filmed on November 5.
