The 24th edition of the Malabar Naval Exercise witnessed the weapon firing sequence on the last day of the three-day-long exercise in the Bay of Bengal on November 6. It was held off the coast of Visakhapatnam in southern India's Andhra Pradesh.

The video of the first phase of the exercise witnesses complex and advanced naval exercises including surface, anti-submarine and anti-air warfare drills, cross deck flying, and weapon firing exercises.

The first phase involved the participation of the Indian Navy (IN), United States Navy (USN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), and Royal Australian Navy (RAN). During the exercise, the zero-contact format was considered due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the first time that the exercise is divided into two-phase with the second phase taking place in the Arabian Sea in the western region of India from November 17 to November 20.

Amidst growing animosity with China and Pakistan, the quadrilateral event of such magnitude becomes crucial in sending out a stern message. For the first time over a decade, all four QUAD Countries, Japan, India, Australia and the US, are taking part in Phase 1 of Malabar exercise 2020.
