Residents wade through the muddy deluge of the Rio Grande river in El Savador after Hurricane Iota barrelled through Central America.

Hurricane Iota first made landfall in Nicaragua on Monday evening before causing more damage as it moved over to El Savador, Panama, Nicaragua and Belize.

Nearly all Nicaraguan properties have lost access to electricity and phone services. The storm, which brought strong wind and heavy rain, has reportedly killed 19 people across the region as of November 18.

Iota's wind speed has since dropped to 30 mph and is moving west at 12 mph, weakening to tropical depression status, according to the National Hurricane Center. Some parts of the region are expected to receive more than 12 inches of rain today.

Hurricane Eta had earlier caused severe destruction, killing more than 182 people and left 116 missing across Central America.
