Zoo animals try to stay warm as cooler temperatures hit northern Thailand
Animals try to stay warm at a zoo as temperatures drop with the onset of colder winter season in Thailand.
Footage shows an adorable orangutan carrying around a tattered blanket around its enclosure in Chiang Mai Zoo this morning (November 19).
The primate named Uncle Sam is the only male Borneo orangutan at the zoo located at the foothills of the Doi Suthep forest.
Aside from its favourite blanket which it carries when exhibiting for tourists, Uncle Sam has sacks of hemp in its cave to hug and clench in the colder nights.
Wuttichai Muangman, director of the zoo, said they will provide more warming equipment for the animals to prepare for the cold season.
He said: "The animals could get since as their bodies adjust to cold weather which starts early here since we are located at the forest. I have already told the staff to prepare the equipment."
Aside from the orangutan, the zoo is home to a variety of wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, and antelopes.
The average temperature in the area is about 30 to 32 degrees Celsius, but it drops immediately during the night.
