Disabled Indian dog Rocky flies to London to join her new British mom Lala
A stray dog who lost her limbs in a terrible accident in India has flown to London to join her new family.
The female, Rocky, was run over by a train near Faridabad in Haryana on October 18, 2019.
Chanderpal, a railway policeman, saw her bleeding profusely and brought her to Ravi Dubey and Naveen Chauhan of People For Animals Trust, Faridabad, an animal welfare organisation.
Rocky had lost her front limbs and suffered a serious fracture in one of the hind legs. She was in trauma and so badly wounded Dubey and Dr. Mahesh Verma and Dr Tapesh Mathur, the vets he consulted, felt she may succumb to her injuries.
But Rocky fought back and made a remarkable recovery over the next four months, though her front limbs had to be amputated.
Dubey tried to find a home in India for her, but gave up. “She is badly disabled and needs special care, no one was willing to adopt her here,” says Dubey.
Impressed by her fighting spirit, Dubey made a two minute documentary on Rocky and put that on social media.
Wild At Heart Foundation, an animal welfare organisation based in London, was moved by Rocky’s story and managed to find her a home in England. On November 18, Rocky was loaded in a cage on a KLM flight and left for her new home in London.
Eleanor Brampton of Wild At Heart Foundation and Rocky's new mom 'Lala' received her in London on November 19.
Brampton said: "We're absolutely delighted to be able to play a part in Rocky's remarkable rescue journey. Rocky is an exceptional dog who emulates everything that is so special about rescues: not only has she shown herself to be strong, resilient and incredibly brave, but she's done so with so much love, happiness and charm. We can't wait to see her settled in her forever home, and are committed to helping her live a healthy and happy life here in the UK."
Dubey also made a pair of prosthetic legs for Rocky. “She is struggling with them and needs more training to learn to use them,” he said.
