This is the heartwarming moment a kitten was cut to freedom through a square hole after getting stuck behind a house wall.

Homeowners called the firefighters for help after hearing soft cat cries coming at the back of their wall in Sydney, Australia on November 9.

Fire and Rescue NSW team responded to the house and immediately used thermal imaging to find out where exactly the cat was.

Upon locating the cat, a rescuer used a knife to cut a small hole on the drywall that is big enough to pull the kitten out.

'What's behind door number one,' one of the firemen joked as the kitten stuck his head through the hole.

The innocent cat immediately poked its head out after the hole was made and the rescuer was able to finally take it out.

The ginger cat came out unharmed after a 20-minute rescue operation. It was given some food and water before it rested on the corner of the house.

The kind homeowners adopted the young stray afterwards and thanked the firefighters who responded to help them.
