Education establishments in Telangana's Karnataka finally opened eight months after the initial COVID-19 lockdown of schools in India, but not everyone was brave enough to show up to class.

On November 17, the Government First Grade College in Raichur opened its doors to staff and 1200 students but only one turned up to lectures.

One commerce student turned up to school and sat in an empty classroom, brandishing a certificate of health.

She is seen alone in a classroom while a visor-clad teacher stands at the front of the room schooling.

On November 17, colleges opened in state of Karnataka in India after eight months when they were shut down due to Corona virus. While lecturers and other staff were ordered to turn up in full force, not many students attended. In Government Fir‏st Grade College in Raichur, where 1200 students study, just one female student turned up and sat through the lectures sitting alone in an empty class room. When a media team visited, she stood up and showed her medical certificate that said she was Corona negative. The girl is a commerce student.

It was similar story in colleges across the state with few students turning up or no one tuening up at all. Colleges had taken Covid precautionary measures such as enforcing social distancing, masks, sanitisers etc and hope students will pick up in the comig days. "Students have to get tested and come with Corona negative medical certificate. That is stopping many from turning up, as they don't know where to get the testing done," a teacher in Raichur college said.
