Adorable lion cubs become playful after filling their stomachs with mother's milk
I was guiding a group of local guests during a recent safari in the Kruger National Park, when we got word about a lioness and three cubs that have been seen in the area where we were traversing. We have known about the new addition to our local lion pride for a few weeks but the lioness kept the cubs hidden in a safely enclosed den inside thick bush. This time round they were out in the open on the sand of a dry river bed. This was the moment many of the local nature guides in the area been waiting for. We made our way straight to the area where they were spotted.
On our arrival at the site, we stopped on top of a cliff overlooking a dry riverbed. There they were, a lioness with three adorable cubs right in the open. The lioness was flat on her back, back legs spread wide open while her three youngsters eagerly filled their bellies with her milk. After the cubs had their fill, they became very playful. This was when things became really cute and entertaining to watch. The three cubs were full of energy and their play session was filled mainly with the biting, tackling and pawing of each other. The soft moans and growls of the cubs were so cute to listen to at the same time. I noticed that this play session was at the same time a learning session, sharpening their essential skills such as jumping on prey from behind and defending themselves with their paws.
