Locals in southern India's Karaikal watched on nervously as a fishing boat struggled in rough seas brought by the approaching Cyclone Nivar.

Dozens of residents are seen on the coast watching a fishing boat that was almost capsized by the 10-metre-high waves on November 25.

Coastal cities in Tamil Nadu are bracing for Cyclone Nivar which has developed into a severe cyclonic storm. Nivar is expected to make landfall in the early hours of November 26.

Very High tides and rough sea makes the fishing boat hard to sail to the shore in Karaikal Southern India.

Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are bracing for Cyclone Nivar, which has intensified into a "severe cyclonic storm", expected to intensify further and is barrelling towards the southeast coast. The powerful cyclone is likely to hit the coast by midnight or early tomorrow

In association with development of the severe cyclonic storm, sea conditions in the west-southwest regions of the Bay of Bengal have turned rough to extremely rough and remain at its most unfavourable condition on Wednesday.

The sea condition is very highly unfavourable, triggering sea waves up to 10 metres high.
Due to this the fisherman are having a very hard time returning back to the shore. The fishing boats were about to get capsized.
