Nivar is the first cyclone to form in the country since the onset of northeast monsoon on October 28.
Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are bracing for Cyclone Nivar, which has intensified into a "severe cyclonic storm", expected to intensify further and is barrelling towards the southeast coast. The powerful cyclone is likely to hit the coast by midnight or early tomorrow.
Tamil Nadu’s neighbouring union territory Puducherry has been experiencing intermittent moderate rain influenced by the cyclonic storm. IMD has predicted that there'll be strong winds and heavy rain and maximum impact of the cyclone will be felt in Puducherry.
As a precautionary measure 7,000 people have been evacuated from Puducherry so far. The State Disaster Management Authority has asked people living in low lying areas to relocate them to the nearby relief camps.
Fisherman staged a protest in sea its as the government did not take actions to safeguard their boats. Fisherman raised slogans against the government and went into the rough sea for showing their solidarity and protest against the government.
They said that their boats will capsize or get damaged if its not taken to a proper safe place. For that they seek help from the government to carry their boats to a safer location.
