Cyclone Nivar has made landfall in south India, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Puducherry.

The cyclone made landfall around 2:30 am near Puducherry on Thursday (November 26).

Footage filmed around 1 am on Kamaraj Salai road in Puducherry shows strong winds and heavy rain.

Cyclone Nivar made landfall bringing heavy rains to the Union territory Pondicherry in South India.

Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry witnessed a Cyclone Nivar, which was intensified into a "severe cyclonic storm earlier moving towards the North east getting weaker.

As predicted by the India Metrological Department the cyclone had its landfall near the Northern parts of Pondicherry in South India. The landfall started at around 11:30 pm. The eye of the cyclone crossed Pondicherry at 2:30AM. During that time the rains lashed the Union territory and many trees were seen uprooted as the gusty winds blew at around 145km/hr.
