Thick white smoke and ashes can be seen spewing from Mount Merapi in Indonesia.

Footage shows the active volcano bordering Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces with eruptive activity on November 28.

Officials and rescue teams in towns surrounding the volcano have been on high alert for three weeks since the first of November.

Residents are not yet being evacuated but wildlife centers remind them to avoid interacting with the animals that flee the mountain and reach the villages.

Mount Merapi National Park Center Pujiati said they are monitoring the animals that descend the volcano.

He said: ''We have conducted meetings with the residents in the area about the wild animals that may enter their villages.

''We are monitoring these animals so it would be helpful if the residents report to us instead if they see one.''

The eruption is predicted to point to Gendol River in Central Java.
