Members of the London's French community gathered in Trafalgar Square on Sunday (November 29) to protest against France's draft security law.

The law would restrict the publication of images of the police under some circumstances and increase the surveillance tools available to authorities.

There have been large protests across France against the bill, which opponents say could be abused to restrict legitimate scrutiny of the police.

The protests were given added momentum by the emergence of footage of Black music producer Michel Zecler being beaten by police officers in Paris on November 21.

Members of the French community gathered in London's Trafalgar Square on Sunday (November 29) to protest a pending controversial new bill which would restrict the publication of images of the police and increase surveillance.

Protesters held placards and chanted in French and English. The signs condemned the bill, some reading "it's not the camera that kills us", "no proof no justice" and "we will REC you".

Tear gas has been fired at protesters in Paris, the capital of France, after clashes began between some demonstrating and police officers. Protests have taken place in various cities across France.

Article 24 of the proposed bill would make it a criminal offence to publish images of police officers on duty with the intention of harming their "physical or psychological integrity". France has received warnings from the EU and the UN over the bill.
