A traffic policeman was dragged on the bonnet of a car for half a kilometre in Nagpur city of Maharashtra state on Sunday evening (November 29), after he asked its driver to stop the vehicle. Local Police have arrested the driver Akash Chavan, who has a criminal history, and charged him for offences under Sections 353 ( assaulting public servant ), 307 (attempt to murder) of Indian Penal Code and provisions of Motor Vehicle Act. Traffic constable Amol Chidamwar was managing the traffic at the Sakkardara square when he saw a car with tinted glass on the windshield. He signalled the car to stop, but the driver increased the speed to flee.

Chidamwar tried to stop the car by standing in the middle of the road but jumped on the bonnet to save himself when it was about to hit him. The driver continued to speed hitting a few other vehicles as well as the policeman clung on to the bonnet. The driver finally stopped the vehicle near a college half a kilometre away where people caught hold of him and thrashed him and handed him over to the police.
