Nature's alarm clock

Buy video

We are all very used to alarm clocks, and I don't believe anyone is very fond of them, although we can't live without them… but have you ever heard nature's alarm clock?? Anyone who has been to a forested area has probably heard amphibians vocalizing at night; some are very loud, and this one in particular sounds just like an alarm! On the bright side, if you hear it, it doesn't mean you have to get out of bed, so you can just lay there, appreciating the sounds of nature!
Amphibians are known for their slimy skin, bulging eyes, croaking sounds, and jumping abilities. The word "amphibian" comes from the Greek "amphi" meaning "both", and "bios" meaning "life", referring to them living both in water and on land, undergoing metamorphosis from an aquatic larval form into a terrestrial adult.
Frogs are among the most diverse animals on the planet, with over 6000 species that can be found all around the world. They need water in order to reproduce, so they have to be around areas with a water source, but other than that, they can be found in all continents except for Antarctica, and in almost every environment. Frogs are social creatures that live in groups and the males croak to attract females. When the female finds a male croak she likes, she will release the eggs in the water for him to fertilize them.
Hylidae is a family of amphibians commonly called Treefrogs. It is one of the largest families of anurans, with over 800 species. They can be easily distinguished from other anurans by the toe pads, which help them climb. Their distribution is widespread around the world, with many hylid species occurring throughout temperate North America, through Central and South America, including the Caribbean islands. Hylids are also prevalent in Eurasia, Australia, and Papua New Guinea.
