Gold worth $19,006 seized by air customs officials in southern India

Gold worth Rs 14 lakh ($19,006) was seized by the air customs department of southern India's Chennai International Airport on November 30. The suspect was intercepted at the terminal and was arrested for smuggling.

A video featuring the smuggled items showcases various face creams and nail clippers in which the gold was being smuggled in. Gold plates and pieces weighing 286 grams were found inside the items on further investigation.

On extraction, the items yielded a total of 286 grams of gold valued at Rs 14 lakh ($19,006).

The suspect, identified as Syed Raghuman, was on a rescue flight coming in from Dubai. He was intercepted at the terminal and taken in for interrogation. His bag contained face creams and nail clippers, which on further investigation, yielded the smuggled gold.

A total of 286 grams of gold valued at Rs 14 lakh ($ 19,006) was seized by the airport authorities under the Customs Act of 1962.
