Thai protesters hold anti-establishment rally following Prime Minister's court case
Anti-establishment protesters held a rally in Thailand tonight following a court case involving the country's prime minister.
Crowds gathered at the Lad Prao intersection in Bangkok after Prayut Chan-o-cha was cleared of any wrongdoing by staying in army housing while being the prime minister.
The verdict from the Constitutional Court was met with anger by demonstrators, who are calling for social and democratic reforms and a curtailing of the monarchy's power.
Footage from the latest anti-government rally shows activists and street performers joining in with the demo on December 2.
Anti-establishment protests have taken place in recent months across Thailand, including at schools and universities.
Activists are calling for sweeping reforms including a new constitution, the resignation of the prime minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha and reforms of the monarchy.
The Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha - who seized power with the military in 2014 - and other establishment figures claim the protests are being orchestrated and funded by disaffected opposition and foreign activists. They also claim that social media 'bots' are being used to encourage the protest.
