Bangkok's river traffic is busy due to domestic tourism despite Covid-19 pandemic
Bangkok's Chao Phraya river is busy with freight traffic,barges carrying building materials. Domestic tourists are responding to discount prices supported by the government. Foreign tourist numbers are expected to be under 7 million by year end compared to almost 40 million in 2019.
The tourism industry accounts for 12% of GDP according to the Finance Ministry which predicts it will take 4 years to recover from the Covid pandemic.
There were zero foreign tourist arrivals between April and September and 1201 in October (Tourism Ministry). Many hotels have closed.
