Indian custom officials seize $30,000 worth of gold, iPhones and used desktops at Chennai airport

Based on intelligence report two passengers from Dubai were detained by the airport custom officials at Chennai International Airport, Chennai of Tamil Nadu south Indian state.

The footage shows, the recovered gold, iPhones, used desktops and cigarettes placed on a table for investigation.

The reports state, two passengers identified as Sathik Abdul Mannan (46) and Thamemun Ansari Abdul Rashid (34) hailing from Ramanathapuram arrived at the Chennai International Airport by Air India Express Flight IX 1643 from Dubai were intercepted at the exit on suspicion of carry gold.

On checking the check-in luggage's 11 pieces of iPhone 12, 45 cartons of cigarettes and 11 refurbished Lenovo desktops were recovered worth $ 14448 ( Rs 1066000).

Gold weighing 0.53 lbs (240 grams) worth $ 16265 (Rs 1200000) was also recovered.

The total value of the recovered items was worth $ 30713 (Rs 2266000) and further investigation is under process.
