Rooster floats to safety on plastic box as floods kill five people in southern Thailand
This is the amusing moment an ice-cool rooster rides out deadly floods by floating on an upturned plastic box.
The farm bird was stranded when the deluge hit Nakhon Si Thammarat, southern Thailand, on Wednesday (December 2) after heavy rain.
Officials said that at least five people have been killed following waist-deep floods and landslides.
However, footage shows how the smart chicken perched itself on top of the plastic tray and rode it to safety during the floods, which have killed at least five people across the region.
Onlooker, Nuwat, said: ''I was amazed at how cool the rooster stayed. So many people were panicking but the bird stayed calm and found a way to stay safe.''
The region, close to the border with Malaysia, has been lashed with storms and is expected to suffer more heavy rain and flash floods until December 4.
Officials said that in the neighbouring province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, at least 351 villages across 15 districts were flooded and that 16,709 households, or 47,939 people, had been affected. There were also reports of landslides.
Rescue teams in boats evacuated the stranded residents as they prepared for more rain.
Thailand's Southern Meteorological Center warned that the province was on "red alert" due to the continuous rain.
Governor Kraisorn Wisitwong said he had instructed the provincial disaster and mitigation office to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected people.
Trains and aeroplanes into the province have also been cancelled due to the weather.
