Former opposition lawmaker Ted Hui Chi-fung has revealed he is seeking in exile in the UK during a trip to Denmark.

Ted Hui Chi-fung was found guilty of one count of common assault on a senior executive officer in May, 2019.

Hui landed in Denmark earlier this week (November 30) after being invited by the Danish members of Parliament.

Hui announced his exile from Hong Kong as he would face certainly harsh sentences upon return. He urged Copenhagen to offer “safe haven” plans for Hong Kong protesters.

Ted Hui Chi-Fung, a member of the LegCo, the Parliament of Hong Kong, could be seen fearlessly facing the police on several occasions in 2019 and in the videos enclosed, on January 19, 2020 and May 27, 2020. Having been charged under the Legco (Powers and Privileges) Ordinance for contempt and interference with the legislature’s officers, Ted Hui took advantage of an invitation by Danish members of Parliament and an authorized travel (despite being released on bail) to announce his exile from Hong Kong.

Ted Hui had been charged for basically throwing a rotten plant in the LegCo during a session where he was seeking to block the examination of bills proposed by the pro-Beijing party DAB.

Today, while stating he would not demand asylum abroad, Ted Hui announced his exile from Hong Kong as he would face certainly harsh sentences upon return. Democracy activists Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam were sentenced yesterday to sentences between 7 months and 13.5 months in jail for participating and organizing a protest in front of a police station last year. Today, 3 December 2020, the magnate Jimmy Lai, owner of the tabloid "Apple Daily" was remanded in detention until April 2020 by a National Security Law judge in a case of alleged fraud (not investigated under the said law). Similarly, another judge will consider whether activist Tam Tak Chi who is charged with secession for shouting slogans, should be judged by a National Security judge.

Pro-Democracy activists denounce an ever-expanding scope of a law originally announced by Beijing as concerning very few and limited cases.
