At least 12,000 residents in the northern and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka have been affected by Cyclone Burevi.

Footage from December 2 shows severe flooding of roads, farmland and coastal areas after landfall was made.

In just 24 hours 279.8 mm of rain was recorded in the Kilinochchi district

Thousands living in Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya and the eastern Trincomalee district were badly affected, and nearly 200 homes were damaged, according to Pradeep Kodippili, spokesman of Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre.

On Thursday (December 3), Burevi made its way to southern India, exactly one week after Cyclone Nivar wreaked havoc in the same area.
