A jackal that had strayed into a residential colony in northern India’s Rajasthan was rescued by the Fire Department with help from a local woman on December 2. The incident took place in Sri Ganganagar.

Visuals of the rescue operation show the Fire Department personnel binding the animal with ropes after covering its face with a thick fabric. They then drag the animal out of the washroom using the same ropes while it struggles to resist being dragged away.

On being taken out of its hiding, it is able to free itself from the ropes, after which a courageous woman risks her own life to safely carry the animal to the vehicle.

She manages to tie all four legs of the animal, and carries the agitated and frightened jackal to the vehicle in her own arms like a baby.

The jackal was spotted when a child visiting the washroom noticed the animal hiding in a corner. He informed locals who assumed it to be a dog and began to thrash the animal in order to drive it away.

Reacting to physical assault, the jackal turned violent while trying to defend itself, which is when the locals realised the animal was not a dog. They locked it up immediately and informed authorities about the same.

The Forest Department failed to reach the scene, but the local Fire Department Department official Gautam Lal rushed to the spot with a team in order to rescue the animal.

Later, with the help of Jyoti Sharma, a resident of the same locality, and Amarpreet, a National Cadet Corps (NCC) student, the animal was rescued successfully.

It was released into an open field far away from civilisation after being rescued.
