India's first "Clean Air Street" initiative has been launched in Bengaluru's busiest street.

The road will ban traffic on weekends and host artists in hopes of making it pedestrian-friendly and improving air quality.

Footage filmed on November 29 on Church Street shows the new initiative in action where artists are seen using many mediums to express themselves, including drawing and dancing.

The Broke Artists Collective who are using the space is using a "Take what you love, pay what you like" attitude.

Artists will produce their work and people will pay them as they see fit as the area has seen increased foot traffic since the traffic reduction.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka B.S Yediyurappa said: "Experts have stated that 50% of air pollution in cities is due to vehicular exhaust.

"To reduce air pollution, we need to promote public transport, shift to electric vehicles, opt for walking and cycling."

South Indian state Karnataka’s capital city Bengaluru started a news pilot project of Clean Air Street at its busiest Church Street banning vehicles entry during weekends till February.

This project is also said to serve the innovative United Kingdom (UK) and India’s solutions to tackle the global Climate Change.

This is an initiative by the Directorate of Urban and Land Transport (DULT) along with the Indian Institute of Science and the UK technology innovation platform Catapult Network.

Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa launched the pilot project that was implemented by DULT.

The project has been of get help to many broke artist who do not have means and a proper platform to showcase their art works and talent.

Many artists have started displaying their art by sitting on the pavements, even dance to various beats on the street, few sing and play instruments to showcase their talents.

There are many visitors to the street that has turned pedestrian friendly and the transformation of a busy to no traffic on weekends has attracted many children, art lovers and fitness enthusiasts to the street.

The Broke Artists Collective’s ‘Take what you love, pay what you like’ concept is an unique one and interesting one.

Few artists even interact with the people, so that they get to know them and they can draw something for them, they in turn can pay what they like for the art work.

Live music on the street has also given many people the filling of festival vibe.
