A baby elephant with a severely injured face strayed into a school in Sri Lanka on December 2. The incident took place in Anuradhapura’s Palugaswewa.

A video shows the baby elephant walking into the woods surrounding the school. It munches on the wild grass for a while before straying closer to the school premises.

A closer look shows one part of its jaw missing and severely injured. Flies can be seen buzzing around the wound as it tries to eat a stomach-full meal.

A team of veterinarians then arrive at the spot and deliver a few doses of medication to the injured elephant using the dart delivery method.

On being shot with medication, the tiny elephant becomes a bit agitated and tries to wriggle off the dart pierced into its skin.

Reportedly, the elephant accidentally ate a fireball and ended up losing one part of its jaw. The veterinary doctors were amused on watching the gravely injured elephant fend for itself while suffering intense pain.
