Man carries pet dog through floodwater as Thailand hit with deadly floods
This is the heartwarming moment a Thai man refuses to leave his chubby dog behind after the deadly floods hit southern Thailand killing seven people.
The old man was seen carrying his dearest pet pooch while walking through the muddy torrents in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on December 3.
Sirinad Sritip captured the moment her husband carried their pet dog with great care before finally letting the pooch walk on its own when they reached the shallow side.
She said: "When we first received the dog, he told me he never wanted one. Now when the flood came, MheeKhao is the first thing he carried out of our home."
Heavy rain battered the region close to the border with Malaysia between December 1 and December 4, causing severe flash floods.
Four people were killed in the worst-hit province of Nakhon Si Thammarat while three died in neighbouring areas.
A 14-month-old toddler was washed away in the raging torrents and rushed to an intensive care unit where they are fighting for their life.
Officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said rebuilding work would be carried out in the coming days.
More than 500,000 people across hundreds of towns and villages have been affected by the floods.
