Eight solar-powered electric boats are available to give free rides to passengers along a canal in Bangkok, Thailand.

The boats are stationed across 11 piers on the Phadung Krung Kasem canal from Thewarat Market to MRT Hua Lamphong in Bangkok which departs every 15 minutes.

Each e-vessel has 12 solar panels mounted on its roof and can carry up to 30 passengers and has a dedicated space to store bicycles.

Bangkok City Hall spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said every harbour is connected to the bus routes to make commuting more convenient.

He said: "It uses clean power so the pollution in the air will be greatly reduced. Passengers in wheelchairs can also be accommodated."

The piers are linked to bus, MRT, and subway stations, and other canal boat service for easy access.

The first batch of electric boats had run alongside old diesel-powered vessels for six months before the system had gone fully electric last week.
