The Dani tribe from Indonesia are one the world's most isolated peoples living in the mountainous regions of Western New Guinea.

Situated 1,600 metres above sea level in the Cyclops Mountains the 250,000-strong tribe are mostly farmers and hunters who work in the surrounding fields.

Footage filmed on December 9 shows members of the tribe surrounding a leseai, a square-shaped unit used for cooking, eating and family gatherings.

According to reports, the Dani were unknown to the outside world until the 1930s until explorers stumbled upon the people.

The Dani are animists believing that objects, places and creatures all possess a spiritual essence.

Some members of the tribe are attempting to break into local markets by growing and selling rice as well as posing for pictures with tourists.
