Manatees huddle together for warmth during cold snap in Florida

A recent cold snap in Florida has seen a group of manatees huddle for warmth in a marina close to Delray Beach.

Footage filmed on December 10 shows an aggregation of manatees under the decks after temperatures plummeted to around 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4.4 Celsius).

The filmer explained: "During this week's cold snap night time temperatures in the mid to high 40s, manatees (sea cows) sought warmth anywhere they could find it.

"In this video shot in Delray Beach, Florida, an aggregation of manatees tried to stay warm by hanging out near a street water outflow in a private marina.

"The gentle, eel grass-eaters do the same thing in northern Florida by wintering in river tributaries where consistently 72-ish [degrees] underground spring water flows to the surface."
