This is the amusing moment a clever monkey hitch-hiked by riding on a car's wing mirror.

The cheeky primate ran towards the car while it was passing by a hillside in Chonburi province, Thailand.

Shocked passenger Latdavan Vongsa recorded the long-tailed macaque as it sat calmly on the mirror while surveying the road.

Latdavan said she drove slowly so the monkey can safely jump out of the car when it reaches its destination.

She said: "We drove slowly so he wouldn't fall off. It felt like there was an extra passenger with us."

As the car moved farther down, the monkey did not let go. It continued to sit on the wing mirror as if it was heading for somewhere.

The monkey even peeked through the passenger door's window and checked out the people inside.

When the car drove past a narrow forest trail, the macaque took off and disappeared among the trees.

Latdavan said the unusual monkey encounter was a fun addition to their mountain trip.

She said: "The monkey was so calm and smart. Instead of walking all the way to his tree, he thought of hitching a free ride."
