An astrophotographer from Netanya, Israel has captured a stunning timelapse of solar activity on the star's surface from their backyard.

The footage captured using a telescope shows two sunspots that are "almost three times the size of earth" according to the filmer.

In the background of the image, multiple solar flares can be seen; they are caused by sudden energy twists on the sun's surface cause a huge explosion.

David "Deddy" Dayag filmed for two hours straight to get the incredible footage, with special filters to film the sun.

Dayag said: "[A] new active region has come into our view from earth.

"Two massive sunspots with the larger at almost three times the size of the earth!

"This is approximately a two hour timelapse, I have more data but with a lot of clouds making it unusable for a video.

"This video is the clearest parts of it."
