Buy video

In the early evening sky you can see bright planets Jupiter ( right , brightest ) and Saturn.

they are inching closer and closer every day.

this is showing close-up view on Jupiter ( with 4 moons visible ) and Saturn ( with rings ).

as seen december 11, 2020 in early evening with very clear skies from southwestern Switzerland, looking to the southwest.

filmed with a Sony a7s and Canon EF 400mm lens and speedbooster... and Canon R6 with RF800mm lens and x1.4 teleconverter.

On december 21st they will be so close like never observed since the 13th century. Great conjunctions have happened since then but are often lost in sunlight.

Conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn happen every 20 years or so, but are not always easy to see as they may be lost in the Sun's glare.

The two largest planets of the solar system are currently still separated and look like 2 different objects but on december 21st they will be so close that with the unaided eye they may appear like just one bright dot.
