This is the terrifying moment a flash flood battered a wooden footbridge in the Philippines.

The river overflowed following heavy rains that gushed from the surrounding mountains in South Cotabato province on December 10 afternoon.

Footage shows residents warning their neighbours on the other side of the river who were about to cross the bridge.

Soon after, a huge uprooted tree hit the bridge which almost made it collapse.

Dino Daham, who lives nearby, said they built the footbridge to replace a hanging bridge that was destroyed during Typhoon Vamco last month.

No one was hurt in the incident but the residents were stranded for at least three hours.

They were able to cross and reach home safely but they are urging local officials to build a proper bridge so similar incidents can be avoided in the future.

Dino said: “This is not the first time that this happened. We are just lucky that no one has been hurt so far.”
