This is a record-breaking collection of books accumulated by one man over the course of five decades.

Footage from December 11 shows the collection of an estimated two million titles that are housed in the Ankegowda Book House in southern India's Karnataka.

Anke Gowda was born into a poor family but having amassed the world-record collection of books, he has now become a local hero.

Titles range from useful children's books to those useful for people applying for government roles.

Gowda is known to sleep in the corner of the building and is hoping to convert his ever-growing facility into a national library.

Gowda said "it would be great" if the people in power could help him out to bring this collection of books to those in need.

"Making this library a place of knowledge for people who need it," is part of his goal for the collection.
