4 suspects arrested in connection to grizzly electrocution of endangered leopard
Four suspects have been arrested in a grizzly case of leopard poaching by electrocution in central India's Madhya Pradesh. The operation was carried out in Umariya of Shahdol division.
Visuals shot on December 14 show the recovered parts of the animal can be seen placed on a table by the Forest officials.
The recovered parts included the animal's teeth, claws, whiskers along with galvanized iron wire used for the purpose of hunting the animal down.
The case came to light on November 7 when the forest department team had spotted the animal's carcass in Birsinghpur beat of Pali forest range in the tiger reserve. The post mortem report had revealed electrocution as the cause of death. However, there was no electricity line within 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) of the radius of the place.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sikarwar had ordered a probe into the matter since the leopard's body parts were missing. The team had been constantly on the lookout for poachers of the poor animal and finally succeeded in arresting the four accused.
The poachers have been identified as Kailash Baiga, Bahadur Baiga, Ramdhani Baiga and Shyamlal Baiga.
The DFO stated that the role played by the Forest team in looking for the hunters is commendable. He added that Forest Zone Superintendent Sachin Singh, Assistant Zone Officer Parasram Singh, Omkar Rautel, Makhan Dwivedi, Rakesh Mishra, and Rakesh Singh handled the critical search operation with great competence.
