Footage shows a garden pond full of water shaking during an earthquake in the Philippines.

The powerful magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit several provinces in the Mindanao region including Davao Occidental this morning (December 16).

Resident Christian Dave Rodriguez from Sarangani town said he was feeding ornamental fish pet at a pool tank at the back of their house when he felt the quake.

He said: “I was worried when the ground started shaking. We were worried because our house is near the sea.”

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivocs) director Renato Solidum said the tremor is not expected to cause a tsunami.

He said: “It will not cause a tsunami. We think there's a fault line beneath Sarangani area. It's deep. There are deep earthquakes in Sarangani area and south of it in the ocean.”

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) deputy spokesperson Mark Timbal said they are still assessing the damage but no one was reported hurt.

He said: “So far we are still doing an assessment, but no one was reported hurt because of the earthquake.”
