A duo of golden cats that were confiscated by police in Jakarta, Indonesia, have been rescued and released back into the wild.

Footage from December 17 shows cats Gato and Goldie being released back into the jungle in Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park in Sumatra.

The cats were confiscated by the police's Special Crime Team in Jakarta to prevent and curb illegal wildlife trade.

Both cats underwent treatment and recovery by The West Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (KSDA), where they help stimulate natural behaviour.

The KSDA then released both animals in the jungle, their natural habitat.

The area was chosen for release because of its status as a conservation area so that it can ensure the survival of the golden cat.

The golden cat is an endangered animal protected by law, concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems by Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry.
