An artist from India's Odisha has used approximately 3,500 matchsticks to recreate the famed Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Footage, captured on December 15 in Puri, shows Saswata Ranjan Sahoo's final creation, which has an uncanny resemblance to the original standing at 23 inches tall and 9 inches wide.

Additional footage shows Saswata's method of construction in a timelapse video.

The replica trophy is a homage to the prize given between India and Australia when playing the cricket competition of the same name, which is named after famous cricketers Allan Border of Australia and Sunil Gavaskar of India.

This year's competition will start on December 17 with the historic Pinkball test match.

Saswata made the model as a way to give his best wishes to both teams.
