Bidadi famous for 'Thatte Idli'(Plate size Idli) steamed rice cake in Karnataka
This hotel alone sells around 5000 to 10000 Thatte Idili (rice cake) in single day in Bidadi.
It is located in Ramanagara district of Karnataka on December 16.
People are seen enjoying their stomach filling breakfast of steamed rice cake which usually served with Chutney and Sambar.
The rice that is fermented is first grinded in the batter machine to make it into batter for making Idli and Dose ( rice pancake) famous south Indian dish.
Idlis are usually accompanied with Vadas (fried snack) that fried in hot boiling oil pan.
Few even use lentils for making the batter for the steamed rice cakes and pancakes.
Idlis and Dose are more soft and crisp especially when they are serve and eaten hot, which is why the people call it 'Bisi Thatte Idli' (Hot Plate Idli).
The owner of the hotel Lokesh stated that, " There were only few hotels selling Thatte Idli, my great grandfather started this business, then my father followed and now I've taken over. Bidadi is famous for its steamed rice cakes( Thatte Idli) which is of a plate size, usually the Idlis prepared in south Indian houses are small, here we make huge Idlis. People travelling from Bangalore to Mysuru ensure they eat Idlis from Bidadi."
"My shop alone sells about 5000 to 10000 Idlis in a day, it is even more during the national holidays and weekends," he added.
There are many such hotels in the town selling the famous plate steamed rice cakes and Sri Shivasagar is one of the oldest them all.
