Footage shows a dangerously swollen river passing under a bridge during tropical depression Vicky in the Philippines.

The muddy torrents of water were seen gushing along the Wawa River in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur province on Friday afternoon (Dec 18).

Onlooker Jerome Gatao said rescue teams were on stand-by while the water rose in case it reached nearby homes.

He said: “The heavy rains did not stop overnight. I am glad we see they are prepared this time.”

Storm Vicky battered several provinces in the southern Philippines with flash floods and landslides forcing mass evacuations.

The storm made landfall in Davao Oriental, but the weather state bureau said Vicky is expected to continue to dump rain until Sunday (Dec 20).
