Mother and baby son injured after gas leak explodes from incense stick spark
A mother and her baby were injured after a leaking gas stove exploded sparked by burning incense in Thailand.
Pisutmon Pimsim, 31, forgot to close the gas valve after cooking in Samut Prakan province on December 16.
When lunch was ready, she went to the living room to light some incense before feeding her two-months-old baby boy Jiaming.
The mother did not know that gas was leaking from the tank and when it reached the burning incense in the living room, the terrifying explosion happened.
The eight-month-old boy's crib, which was made of wood and cotton, was engulfed in flames so the mother reached out for the baby and shouted for help.
Nonworn Nakdee, who lives nearby, heard the explosion and rushed to the house to helped the mother and her baby out.
She said: "I heard a loud explosion that shook the whole village. I thought someone had been shot outside.
"When we came out to check, we saw smoke coming out of our neighbour's house and we heard a woman shouting so we went inside."
Nonworn called the paramedics who rushed the injured woman and her child to the hospital where they were treated for severe burns.
Other kind neighbours pulled a water house to prevent the fire from spreading which was easily put out since the structure was made of concrete.
Several furniture were damaged especially in the living room that is adjacent to the kitchen and where the mother and her baby were resting when the explosion happened.
Doctors said the mother and her baby may need a skin grafting procedure as 70 per cent of their bodies suffered severe burns.
