Extravagant life-size gingerbread house in California draws crowd for Christmas
This incredible life-sized gingerbread house in Suisun City, California, has become a major Christmas attraction, seen here on December 5.
VnA’s Gingy House, created by Vince and Aaron, traces its origins to a conversation four years ago about extravagant displays disappearing from neighborhoods. A year later, they jokingly decided to make a gingerbread house.
Decorations, in the beginning, were humble; sourced from recycled materials, food containers, PVC pipes, and even the town's mayor used campaign signs. It’s safe to say VnA’s Gingy house has come a long way from then in terms of decorations as well as visitors.
In their first year they had about 10 people visit a night, a number which grew to approximately 100 visitors a night last year. This year Vince and Aaron are welcoming over 1,200 people a night. They have also been recognized as one of the top displays in the Bay Area to view safely during Covid-19.
Speaking about VnA’s Gingys house Aaron said: “About 4 years ago, we reminisced about seeing Christmas lights like when we were younger and many neighborhoods did extravagant displays. That sadly no longer exist, but we wanted to bring that back to our own next generation of family members, so we jokingly said we should make a gingerbread house.
A year later, ideas built up and we were determined to make it possible, but spend little money as possible. We looked into using recycled materials laying around and was able to create some fun things out of pool noodles, food containers, pvc pipe and boxes. It was around election time and our new mayor of Suisun City just finished her campaign. The huge 4x8 corrugated plastic signs were the perfect ingredient to use. She graciously let us have as many as we wanted," Aaron said.
