Thai police check seafood market following explosion of Covid-19 cases
Government officials inspected a seafood market in Pattaya, eastern Thailand, today (Dec 23) following an explosion of Covid-19 cases in the country.
Public health workers and other protection units collaborated to make sure all stalls complied with the strict measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus at the Bang Lamung district seafood market, where large numbers of Burmese migrants are working.
Police also checked stalls and shops southern district, best known for its islands Ko Lan and Ko Phai.
Officers made sure that all businesses were carrying out temperature checks and had hand sanitiser available. All staff must wear a mask and comply with social distancing rules as well as enforcing a government tracing system.
The extra enforcement came after an explosion in Covid-19 coronavirus cases at a seafood market in Samut Sakhon province on the outskirts of Bangkok, where more than 1,000 Burmese migrant workers tested positive for the virus. There were also cases in surrounding provinces that have spread from people who visited the market - one of the largest in the country.
Thai Prime Minister ruled out a national lockdown but urged residents to be extra vigilant and follow preventative measures.
Thailand has recorded 5,716 cases of Covid-19, as of December 23.
