Temple authorities in southern India's Karnataka state have invented a new take on the traditional bullock cart.

Video shot on December 27 on the streets of Dharmasthala, showed the modern-ish design on streets near the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatha temple.

Instead of a cart, the oxen pull a two-wheeled vintage car. The wagon is attached to the bulls using an unusual chain while the driver sits in front to load the passengers.

The vehicle was developed under the guidance of Dharmasthala chaplain Dr D Veerendra Heggade, as well as Harshendra Kumar, and Diwakar. The staff of the Manjusha car museum and students of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) Polytechnic also assisted in the process.

The enhanced cart is set with modern tyres, a hydraulic brake and a parking jack, to make things easier for the bull leading the vehicle.
