Padang's government have closed all tourist attractions in the city ahead of the new year to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Around 1,000 police officers are guarding the attractions' entrances and exits. The attractions will be shut from December 31 to January 3.

The city's government have also ordered restaurants, cafes and entertainment venues to close at 7 pm. They have also been ordered to stop and New Year's celebrations.

The closure of the tourist attraction starts from 31 December 2020 - until 3 January 2020.

Approximately 1000 Indonesian police including police on guard and barracudas guard the entrances and exits of tourist objects in Padang city such as Padang Beach, Batu Malin Kundang Beach, and a number of small islands so that people cannot enter.

Head of Padang Arfian City Tourism Office said "apart from closing tourist objects, the Padang city government also limits restaurants, cafes, entertainment venues to only being open until 7pm and ensures that New Year celebrations such as fireworks are eliminated" .

Meanwhile, one of the travel tour entrepreneurs in the city of Padang Juabdi said "I am very disappointed that there is a ban on tourists from visiting tourist objects at the New Year's moment, I feel a loss because my client is already in the city of padang and can't feel a vacation in this city ".

In addition, the Indonesian government plans to prohibit foreign citizens from entering Indonesia in early 2021, given the discovery of a new variant of Covid-19 in several countries.
