Passengers were being screened for signs of Covid-19 at a bus station in Thailand on January 2 following an outbreak of cases in the country.

Footage shows people at the terminal in Chiang Mai province in the north of the country. Many residents are now returning back to Bangkok following the holiday period.

Staff used temperature checking equipment and a tracing app as they battle to contain a potential second wave of the pandemic.

The increased security came following an outbreak of coronavirus infections among Burmese migrant workers at a seafood market in Samut Sakhon. The cases have now spread to 44 different provinces and ministers have closed non-essential businesses in the capital Bangkok and several other cities as they battle to contain the new outbreak.

Thailand has now recorded 7,379 cases of Covid-19 and 64 deaths, as of January 2.
