Bizarre CCTV footage has emerged from China of a ‘lovesick’ man dismantling an ATM using a kitchen knife.

In the footage, captured on a security camera in Zhejiang Province earlier this month, the man can be seen dismantling the ATM’s dashboard using a range of cookery utensils.

According to local news reports, the 26-year-old man had intended to withdraw money to go home for Chinese New Year when the machine swallowed his bankcard.

The man later told police that he had recently broken up with his girlfriend and was suffering from stress when he carried out the strange act.

According to reports, the man is now in custody and faces a repair fee of 58,000 yuan (9,431 US dollars) as well as further legal punishment.
