Where's Jack Ma? China's best-known billionaire laying low after 'clash' with Beijing
Chinese business tycoon Jack Ma has not been seen in public for more than two months since he gave his speech in Shanghai in October 2020, according to multiple reports.
Archive footage filmed on September 9, 2019, shows crowds cheering and taking photos as Jack Ma walks past at Alibaba office in Binjiangyuan District in Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province to visit his old workmates on his last day before retiring.
Another archive video shows Jack Ma performing a Michael Jackson-inspired choreography to his employees on Alibaba, the world's largest retailer and e-commerce company, annual party in 2017.
According to reports, the 56-year-old Ma criticised China's regulators at a conference in Shanghai on October 24, 2020.
Regulators then halted Ma's company, Ant Group, which would have been the world's biggest share offering and launched anti-monopoly investigations into Alibaba and its key competitor Tencent.
Ma's last public appearance was at an opening ceremony of a Chinese shopping event Double 11 on October 31, 2020.
