Mayor Sadiq Khan has declared a "major incident" in London due to increasing pressure put on hospitals by COVID-19.

The Mayor of London tweeted: "BREAKING: I have declared a major incident in London because the threat this virus poses to our city is at crisis point.

"One in 30 Londoners now has COVID-19. If we do not take immediate action now, our NHS could be overwhelmed and more people will die."

Footage shot on London trains on Thursday (January 7) shows standing room only and maskless commuters despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The clip was filmed at 6 am on the TFL Rail line between Seven Kings and Liverpool Street.

Further footage filmed on the same line's 6.41 am train from Seven Kings yesterday shows more commuters crammed into the seats with little or no social distancing.

"A quick video to show you just how busy the trains are in London still regardless of lockdown!" the filmer told Newsflare.

On Thursday, the UK reported another 1,162 COVID-19 related deaths and 52,618 cases.
