Supermarkets were hosed down with disinfectant following the second wave of Covid-19 cases in Thailand.

Footage shows workers using power hoses to spray water mixed with disinfectant around the car park of the shopping centre in Buriram province on January 5.

Cleaners then gave the inside of the supermarket a ‘deep clean’ and wiped down all the surfaces with disinfectant.

Regional council leader Suphot Sawat said every supermarket in the area had been ordered to undergo cleaning to limit the chances of spreading the virus.

The measures came following an outbreak of hundreds of new cases in Thailand, which has lead to sweeping closures of non-essential businesses across the country.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha said the latest restrictions were ‘not a lockdown’ but warned that curfews and travel bans could be reintroduced if cases continue to increase.

Thailand has recorded 9,331 cases of Covid-19 and 66 deaths. A second wave of infections began in mid-December following an outbreak among Burmese migrant workers at a seafood market in Samut Sakhon province close to the capital Bangkok.
